Recent case warns physicians to do their homework regarding telemedicine practices
In the aftermath of several medical board sanctions and being placed on probation for inappropriately prescribing medications over the phone without a prior physical examination or patient-physician relationship, Dr. Ely David Zaslow, formerly of Hazelwood (NC) Family Medicine, is suing Secure Telemedicine for fraud, misrepresentation, and unfair trade practices, reports The Citizen Times.
"On advice from the telemedicine companies, Dr. Zaslow believed a telephone evaluation and subsequent prescriptions were consistent with the board's position. They are not," the N.C. Medical Board stated in a disciplinary report. Read more
